PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA
Blue: Sayaka Miki, Red: Kyoko Sakura, Monochrome: Akemi Homura, Yellow: Mami Tomoe, Pink: Madoka Kaname, Creature in White: Kyuubey
WARNING! THIS MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILER!
If you haven't watched the show, don't go beyond this point, I've warned you~
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an anime show, written by Gen Urobuchi, directed by Akiyuki Shinbo with original character designs by Ume Aoki. It had 12 episodes, and based on my opinion, if you usually don't like any magical girls anime, please be patient until episode 3. Things will be getting pretty good from there =v=
At first, I'm not really interested with this anime because the promotion pictures and (especially) the character designs are looking very moe-ish. When seeing this anime at first glance, I thought it will be another typical magical girls anime--you know, you've met with a strange creature, then given power/magic/something like that for a purpose, you have to defeat the bad guys/monster of the week which getting stronger in every episodes, then it ends with a final battle with a final boss. I was ready to get disappointed even when one of my friend heavily recommend this anime.
My Comment throughout the whole series:
Episode 1: Meh. But the witch's (basically, it's the bad guy in the anime) design is pretty good. Maybe I should keep watching this.
Episode 2: Okay, so when will Madoka become a magical girl? So slow...
Episode 3: WTF? What happened?! What did I miss?! *replaying* omg... 0.o
Episode 4-END: Ooohhh... everything is so interesting!
......
Okay, I might exaggerating a bit but much or less my reaction is kinda like that =v=
Later, Madoka meet with a strange creature called Kyuubey. It turns out the white creature is being chased by Homura who wear an unusual outfit at that time. Getting help from her friend, Sayaka Miki, Madoka tried to escape from Homura thinking that she should save Kyuubey.
Then, suddenly they trapped in a labyrinth full of strange creatures. When their life is in danger, a senior from their school, Mami Tomoe, come to the rescue. Mami said she will explain everything after she finished the strange creatures first. She managed to drive away those creatures by using some kind of magic which allow her to summon an endless amount of muskeets.
After that, Madoka and Sayaka are being told that the strange creatures just before are called Familiar, a minions of a Witch. They can only be defeated by the magic of Puella Magi. Mami dan Homura is one of those Puella Magi. Kyuubey, on the other hand, is the one who can granted one's wish in exchange of them become a Puella Magi.
Mami said that Puella Magi is like a ray of hope, because they possess a power to defeat Witches which can cause harm on human beings. Madoka and Sayaka trusted Mami, and they show a big interest in becoming a Puella Magi though they still not sure what should they wish for. Homura is trying hard to prevent Madoka from becoming a Puella Magi, but both Madoka and Sayaka doesn't trust her even one bit.
Homura tried to tell them that being a Puella Magi is not something you should wanted. It's a curse, and as the story progresses, the dark secret of Puella Magi being revealed one by one...
THE CONCEPT:
First of all, though I might already said it, but I want to say that I really LOVE the whole concept of this show. Just like the title of this post say, "Miracle is not for free", the concept of Puella Magi is someone who have her/his wish being granted by a "messenger of magic" in exchange of becoming a Puella Magi.
That, is only on the surface.
In fact, with that single wish they actually exchange their soul, which would be trapped in a device called Soul Gem--this soul gem contain indicates their magic and is kinda like a device to change them into their Puella Magi's form. Which means, once they become a Puella Magi, that's mean they no longer human because their original body will be replaced with a body which doesn't have a soul (because the soul is in their Soul Gem) and said that it have a higher possibility of surviving in witches battle. Which also mean, if their Soul Gem is broken/shatter/crushed/away from the body, they no more than just a doll.
On top of that, Witches are also born from a stained soul gem. A soul gem become stained if the owner feeling any despair (well, fighting witches--which sometime can be insanely strong--for the rest of your life, who wouldn't feel any despair?). If it become completely dark, it turned into a grief seed which give born to a new witch. In other words, Puella Magi is like seeds for future witches.
Then the question is, fighting witches for the rest of their life is not a problem if they have enough will power/completely ready for the price of their wish, why they should feel any despair? To put it simple, even if you wish for something, the changes might not always going the way you wanted it to be, that is where you would start to fell regret and despair. For example, a girl wished for her boyfriend to come back. Well, they might come back of being a couple, but there is no guarantee her boyfriend wouldn't cheat on her as their relationship goes on. After all, she only wished for her boyfriend to come back right? So her wish only being granted as far as that point.
Moreover, beside the feeling of despair, a soul gem can also become stained if they overuse their magic. To prevent this, they need to defeat a witch and obtain the grief seed. The grief seed has a function of cleansing the dirtied soul gem. So that's mean, Puella Magi only have two choice: fighting witches or become a witch.
Episode 4-END: Ooohhh... everything is so interesting!

THE PLOT:
A high school girl named Madoka Kaname is an ordinary student--she had a happy family, friends, and peaceful life. One day, a transfer student come to her school and by chance she's on the same class with Madoka. Despite this is their first meeting, Madoka feels like she might know the transfer student (named Akemi Homura) because she just having a dream about Homura the night before. On top of that, Homura also acted as if she already knew Madoka. She even warned Madoka by saying if Madoka loves her family and friends, Madoka should not even think of changing anything.Later, Madoka meet with a strange creature called Kyuubey. It turns out the white creature is being chased by Homura who wear an unusual outfit at that time. Getting help from her friend, Sayaka Miki, Madoka tried to escape from Homura thinking that she should save Kyuubey.

FUTURE FANFICTION:
Right now, just like I said many times before, I'm developing an original fanfic which will use the concept of Puella Magi and that's make it a Madoka Magica fanfic =v= After all, I based my OC on one of the existing witch on the series. It'll mostly tell about her prior life (before becoming a Puella Magi, and later, a witch), her wish, her reason, etc. And I should say I might ignore some minor details to make everything fits perfectly, but don't worry, I won't make it to far away from the original.
As for which one of the witch my OC will become, that's a secret^^ Try to guess it until I finished the fanfic *evil laugh* For hint, I tell you it's not Charlotte. She's too popular lately because of episode 3 ==a
